Thursday some friends and I took a trip up to mile high coffee
for old times sake. We decided to go at dusk to be able to see
the lights from the office buildings take over the evening sky.
Those are the photos above. Then yesterday I found this
awesome Fortune (July 1964) magazine at Deluxe Junk. Isn’t this
cover awesome? I had to purchase it. I know I’ve said this before,
but I really like this time of day when the transition of night lights
is almost equal to that of natural light.

Senior photos aren’t my specialty, I’ll admit it. But Mikayla was fun to work
with and we had surreal lighting and her family is great (last frame).
This is the third time I’ve worked with them. I documented Mikayla’s
brothers wedding (courtney+josh) as well as Courtney’s brother
and his lady (erin&justin).

And yes, this is at one of Seattle photographers favorite spots +.
The third frame is straight out of the camera.
All of these photos were taken after sunset, mostly at ISO 1600.

I have always been fascinated by the time of day when
artificial and natural light blend together.

This morning I wandered the streets of Seattle with No Theft (Tommy Panigot), toting our cameras over our shoulders. We had hoped for nice contrasty sunshine, but got overcast instead. Who am I kidding, it’s Seattle! It was very pleasant, none the less.

It was a breath of fresh air to get out and take pictures… just for the fun of it. I pushed myself to try something different today. To capture things with deep depths of field – or without blurry backgrounds. It was refreshing. Look at some of the shots from the morning over on No Theft’s blog as well.

If you follow my work and have your own blog, I’d love if you shared a link to it.

Also, I decided to make my photo size larger on this blog. Let me know what you think.

This morning as I was working on my soon-to-be-released website (promotional plug: benblood.com, next week, stay tuned), the power went out and the internets went down. I had to stay productive, so I went on a photo journey around Seattle.

One of these photos is not like the other. Can you tell which one it is, and why? The winner gets a prize. A virtual high-five!

I just got home from relaxing in the San Juans on Orcas Island with some friends. We hoped for a sunny weekend, but it was snowing on the drive up. Today, on the way back, the sun broke through and it was wonderful, but a little late. The last shot was the view from my bedroom window. How nice would it be to wake up to that everyday!

A couple of weeks ago I got a new guitar amp, so I’ve been playing guitar almost everyday because I’m so excited about it. I was in the living room playing guitar yesterday afternoon when I heard a knock on the front door. There’s this guy at the door holding a vinyl album and it’s dust jacket in his hands.

“Hey man, I hear you playing guitar often from my house across the street and wanted to drop off this vinyl I just pressed – do you have a record player?” he asks as he hands me this pristine, white, vinyl record with custom screen printing on it.

I was blown away. . . by the white vinyl (and by the fact that this guy can hear my guitar across the street and one house down). I’m not quite sure the point of this blog, but I thought I should share this. I’m glad he stopped by. I’m glad people can still talk to their neighbors. At this point I will apologize to any neighbors that may not like to hear my guitar, across the street … or next door. However, I think the white vinyl is pretty snazzy!

The music is somewhat experimental. You can hear some of it at dulcettrecords.com

In other news, I’m buying a Zorki 4.

Ghosts & Liars played an amazing set and GV played their new Christmas song. There were even sing-a-longs. It was amazing! Sorry Trans Union, I missed out on most of your set: traffic. There were cookies and candy canes for everyone! I hope you’re ready for Christmas this season.
