Family Documentary Aug 17, 04:06 PM
A while back I had the privilege to document this couple and their two boys. This family didn’t want the “standard” family studio portraits. I could understand this as their two boys were full of so much energy, I don’t think the photographer could have them still for two seconds.
So I met them at their house where we visited and I took a few snaps of the boys before we headed to the park. Some of the best shots came from them interacting, not posing. I think this has become my favorite as there is some much more emotion available to capture.
The youngest boy stole the show.
This was a great learning opportunity for me, because this was something out of the normal for me to shoot. It opened my eyes just a little bit more to see things differently. Thanks to the four of you :)

Your best post yet in my opinion. Excellent work.
These are terrific. Any family would be lucky to have portraits like these. They’ll treasure them for years to come.
Great job!
CUTE! I love the one with the dad playing catch with them. And the one where they are running down the street.
really, really cool ben. the younger was really great, but i think the shots you have of the two of them together are incredible on their own. great work.
Oh My Goodness Ben! These are really good!!! I really like the one with both the boys running on the bridge!!
You captured these boys so perfectly. I love the composition of the youngest in front of the car door, you see how small he is where as in the other photos you don’t really think of his size. It just makes him more adorable.
I also like how personal these shots are, it looks like they are completely themselves and comfortable in a way that they have known you for years. It’s like no ice had to be broken. Thats credit to your personal skills my friend and that’s not on your film. :D
Wow. Ben, these are fantastic. I agree entirely with the fact that these are the coolest portraits I have ever seen and most likely already family heirlooms. What character to work with and style to capture that with…bravo.
Mr. Benjamin
I believe you really excelled yourself with this photoshoot, I don’t even know where to start. I enjoy seeing the picture of the kids running on the bridge/walkway. I also like the one with the kid to the right of the picture, talk about rule of thirds huh? Very nicely done. On the second to last picture both kids are out of focus and it causes me to focus on the ivy wall. It’s a nice wall and the texture is fantastic, but there are two blurry kids in the front. Taking pictures of people while they’re moving around is never easy, however, you did a great job. By the way I’ve been meaning to tell you, I think the homepage picture is a really good choice on your website.
Hi Ben!
I just found you through Adam and Diana. We sat here till past midnight admiring your work. I love how you capture life stories not just “pictures” of people. Fabulous work, I’ll be following you!
